Diclofenac Indication.
For the acute and chronic treatment of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Diclofenac Contraindications.
Diclofenac in all formulations, Cataflam, Diclofenac, and Diclofenac-XR, is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to diclofenac and diclofenac-containing products. Diclofenac should not be given to patients who have experienced asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. Severe, rarely fatal, anaphylactic-like reactions to diclofenac have been reported in such patients.
Diclofenac Prescription.
Diclofenac is prescribed to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis (arthritis caused by a breakdown of the lining of the joints), rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis caused by swelling of the lining of the joints), and ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis that mainly affects the spine). Diclofenac immediate-release (short-acting) tablets are also used to treat painful menstrual periods and pain from other causes. Diclofenac is in a class of prescription called NSAIDs. It works by stopping the body's production of a substance that causes pain, fever, and inflammation.
A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAID) with antipyretic and analgesic actions. It is primarily available as the sodium salt.
How should Diclofenac be used?
Diclofenac comes as an immediate-release tablet and an extended-release (long-acting) tablet to take by mouth. Diclofenac immediate-release tablets are usually taken two to four times a day. Diclofenac extended-release tablets are usually taken once a day, and in rare cases are taken twice a day. Take diclofenac at around the same time(s) every day.
Diclofenac is an acetic acid nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. Diclofenac is used to treat pain, dysmenorrhea, ocular inflammation, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and actinic keratosis
Diclofenac side effects.
- back pain;
- blisters;
- bloody, black, or tarry stools;
- cloudy, discolored, or bloody urine;
- constipation;
- diarrhea;
- difficult or painful urination;
- difficulty breathing or swallowing;
- dizziness;
- drowsiness;
- excessive tiredness;
- fast heartbeat;
- fever;
- flu-like symptoms;
- gas or bloating;
- headache;
- hives;
- hoarseness;
- itching;
- lack of energy;
- loss of appetite;
- loss of consciousness;
- pain in the upper right part of the stomach;
- pale skin;
- rash;
- ringing in the ears;
- slow, shallow, or irregular breathing;
- stomach pain;
- swelling of the eyes, face, tongue, lips, throat, arms, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs;
- unexplained weight gain;
- upset stomach;
- vomiting;
- vomiting a substance that is bloody or looks like coffee grounds;
- yellowing of the skin or eyes;
